Everyone who hears these words of Mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. Matthew 7:24-25

Ruffle Cake

I don’t know if I’ve told y’all before, but Pinterest is rapidly becoming my new favorite pastime.  It’s sooo full of inspiration.  Crafts, decorating, cooking…

Even cake!

My latest cake creation is actually a combination of ideas that I’ve seen on Pinterest.  Ruffles and bunting.

Two reasons why I love this cake:

1.  The Ruffles.

They are the “wow” factor of the cake.  Although the ruffles look complicated, they are relatively simple to create if you have basic piping skills.  I have to admit I wondered whether or not I could recreate the look, but I think my ruffles turned out pretty good!

2.  The Bunting.  An adorable idea.

To create the bunting, I used some of my scrapbooking supplies to whip up a few flags, then strung the flags on some ribbon.  The bunting is suspended from two wooden skewers.  The best thing about this bunting is that it takes absolutely no cake decorating skills to create it.  If you can use a pair of scissors, you can make your own.

Now if you’re a cake decorator, you know there’s nothing better than seeing party guests enjoying your cake.

At the same time, however, there’s also nothing worse than seen party guests enjoying your cake, because this is what happens when they do.

But you get used to it…

IMG_3089 (2) (533x800)

At least with this cake I got to enjoy a piece myself. Smile

Christmas 2011–Part II

Well, as promised, here are some more pics from our Christmas.  Today is all about Christmas morning.  Usually it’s the kids who are the ones waking the parents up on Christmas morning, but not in our house!  The Tool Man and I got tired of waiting on them, and we finally woke the kids up about 8:00.

IMG_2849 (2) (533x800)

Ty was anxious to jump right in and starting ripping open packages, but it took a few minutes for Lucy Lee to wake up.

IMG_2851 (2) (533x800)

First out of the box… this grrrrr-eat LSU shirt for Ty.  This is gonna be perfect for him to wear after we win the championship Monday.  Geaux Tigers!!!

IMG_2862 (2) (533x800)

It didn’t take long for Lucy to get into the groove of opening gifts.  This was really the first year that Lucy has understood the concept of presents.  I’m afraid we may have created a monster.  Since Christmas morning, she hasn’t seen a present that she hasn’t assumed was for her.

IMG_2867 (2) (533x800)

One of Ty’s favorite gifts from Santa was this dragon Happy Napper.  He’s kept the dragon by his side since he pulled it out of the box Christmas morning.  My boy loves his stuffed animals.  I don’t ever remember playing with stuffed animals when I was a child, but they are just about the only toys Ty plays with.  That’s my boy.  He’s either playing with cuddly teddy bears, or he’s shooting birds and lizards with his BB gun.  He’s such a well-rounded child.

IMG_2877 (2) (800x533)

OK.  How many children of the 90’s remember these?  Slap bracelets.  Lucy and Ty love them!

IMG_2880 (2) (533x800)

Lucy got lots of necklaces, clothes, and accessories.  As soon as she would open something, she would have to try it on.  At one point on Christmas morning, Lucy had on three necklaces, Hello Kitty socks, sunglasses, mittens, an apron, and a chef’s hat.  Quite an outfit!

IMG_2882 (2) (533x800)

Wow!  Ty even looked happy about the flashcards Santa brought him.

IMG_2893 (2) (800x533)

Lucy’s been wanting some camouflage of her own.  Whenever she sees it she say, “I go deer huntin’.”

IMG_2904 (2) (533x800)

IMG_2912 (2) (540x800)

That sneaky Santa!  When I was a kid he used to hide the really “good” presents behind our couch.  Looks like he’s up to his same old tricks again…

IMG_2917 (2) (800x533)

This is all that Lucy asked for from Santa – a bicycle!

IMG_2934 (2) (532x800)

This bike came complete with a horn, tassels, a basket, and a seat to hold a baby doll.

IMG_2936 (2) (800x533)

Behind the couch there was also a big bag for Ty.

And in that bag was another bag…

IMG_2920 (2) (533x800)

And in that bag, another bag…

IMG_2921 (2) (533x800)

And in that bag, an envelope…

IMG_2922 (2) (533x800)

And in that envelope, a letter…

(The suspense is killing you, isn’t it?)

IMG_2933 (2) (800x533)

And in that letter…

Well whatever it was had to be good.  Just take a look at the expression on Ty’s face.

IMG_2929 (2) (533x800)

A CRUISE!!!!

IMG_2931 (2) (533x800)

Wahoooo!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yep.  Ty asked Santa for a free gift card to go on a cruise.  Thankfully, Santa delivered 4 of them.  He must have known mom, dad, and Lucy needed a vacation too.  We set sail in 2 weeks.  Merry Christmas!

Next year I think I’ll give my list to Ty and let him give it to Santa for me.

Happy Birthday, Faith

Our family spent this last holiday weekend celebrating cousin Faith’s 8th birthday.  Faith had a small, all be it, lively party at everyone’s favorite pizzeria!!

Here’s the beautiful birthday girl.  Did you notice her cute corsage?  Her crafty dad made it just for her.  Way to go, Daddy-O!

IMG_3087 (2) (533x800)

Miss Lucy never gets tired of cheese pizza.  Come to think of it, I have yet to meet a kid who gets tired of pizza.

IMG_3069 (2) (533x800)

I had the privilege of getting to make Faith’s birthday cake.  With total creative freedom, I decided to try out one of those ruffle cakes I’ve been seeing on Pinterest.  I loved how the cake turned out. I’ll post later with some more pictures of the cake, but today is all about the party!

IMG_3083 (2) (800x533)

O.K.  So maybe just one little pic of some cake.

IMG_3096 (2) (800x535)

Time for presents!  Lucy was a little confused because there weren’t any presents for her.  She’s still got Christmas on the brain.

IMG_3120 (2) (800x533)

Mom helped the birthday girl try on her new watch.

IMG_3112 (2) (532x800)

I found myself taking tons of photos of the kids.  They were too distracted by the party to notice me snapping pictures of them.  Candid shots always make the best pictures.

Grace.

Abby.

This little sweetie lost a tooth while eating her pizza.  Now when I say “lost,” I mean lost.  For a while she was sure she had swallowed it, but luckily Ty found her tooth on the floor underneath the table.

Faith, admiring her new watch.

IMG_3114 (2) (533x800)

Not sure who this monkey belongs to.  He sure is cute though.

IMG_3072 (2) (533x800)

Little Lucy, still working on that pizza…

IMG_3065 (2) (533x800)

As if the table cloth, streamers, and balloons didn’t give it away, Ty had to make a reserved sign to put on the party “tabel.”

IMG_3082 (2) (533x800)

Grammie helped Lucy eat her cake and ice cream.

IMG_3103 (2) (533x800)

IMG_3097 (2) (533x800)

When they were done with their pizza, all the kids headed outside for a game of freeze tag.  Then we rounded them all up for a group picture.  It’s amazing, but I actually got several shots of them all looking at the camera…at the same time!
