Everyone who hears these words of Mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. Matthew 7:24-25

Tacy Mae–6 Months

Considering that Tacy will be 7 months old this week, I figured I’d better hurry and share her 6 month photos with y’all.

I can really tell that Tacy knows much more about what is going on around her now.  She is starting to interact with her environment rather than just be a passive onlooker.

You can forget about trying to do something with your hands while holding Tacy.  She’ll be reaching for whatever you’re holding faster than you can say “scat” with your mouth open.  When I open the refrigerator while holding her, she pulls out items left and right.  And there’s that bowl of salad she spilled in my lap the other day…

Tacy enjoys playing with toys too, something neither Ty nor Lucy did much as babies.  A couple of her favorites are the squeaky Sophie Giraffe and a teething necklace I wear just for her.  And let’s not forget her toes.  Tacy loves to suck on her big toes.

This little monkey is becoming quite a mover.  Although she’s nowhere near crawling, she definitely is no longer content to lie on her back in one place like an upside down turtle.  Through a combination of rolling and wiggling, Tacy manages to travel all over the living room floor.  Which means I’ve got to be on my toes keeping tiny toys and other dangers out of her reach.

Gone are the days of Tacy’s wild mohawk hairdo.  Her hair lays down quite nicely now and is actually beginning to hang down over her ears a bit.

As much as Lucy usually enjoys her monthly pictures with Tacy, this month she was just not that into it.  I finally coaxed a smile out of her though.

I do believe Tacy is going to catch Lucy in size one day soon.  Look at the two of them!  Doesn’t Tacy look just as wide as Lucy here?  Tacy sometimes wears a size 18 months, while it was only last week that I finally packed away a pair of Lucy’s shorts sized 2T.

While we’re on the subject of growth, we might was well discuss Tacy’s eating habits.  She still nurses about 5 times a day, but at 6 months, I started her on some baby food.  First we did the rice cereal then moved onto carrots and green beans.  She also likes to nibble on MumMums (baby rice cakes.) Tacy has done well with the new foods.  It didn’t take her long at all to learn what to do with them.

At least I got that taken care of before I got an entire month behind.  Hey, give me a break!  I manage to stay pretty busy around here.  And as if normal, household duties aren’t enough, the Tool Man and I have been working hard this spring trying to spruce up our landscape.  We’ve added flower beds, cut down trees, and built a new deck.  Plus, we plan on taking this place to a whole new level of redneck-ness by installing an above ground pool. (No offense to those with said pool.)  My monkeys (and their mom) are so going to love it!

Don’t forget.  Next week it will time again for another monthly update on Tacy.

Biedenharn Portraits–Part II

As promised, I’m back today with the second half of our annual spring photo shoot.  I think I told y’all last time that we had some company with us this year.  My brother’s baby, Caroline, joined in the fun.

It was quite a challenge to have all four monkeys smiling not crying and looking in the general direction of the camera at the same time, but we managed.

It didn’t help matters that Ty, the one kid who was old enough to know better, was constantly crossing his eyes and sticking out his tongue.  I wanted to wring his neck!

Despite all of the whining and complaining she did this day, I managed to get tons of good pictures of Lucy.

Take a look at this handsome young man!  It’s been 6 years since I first took Ty to the Biedenharn gardens.  He was just shy of 4 years old then.  My, how he’s changed! Scroll down to see for yourself.

Wasn’t he a cutie patootie?

I definitely use the nickel Coke machine to bribe the monkeys to smile.  Lucy chose Diet Coke, you know, “Just for the taste of it.”

Clink, clink, clink!  Here’s to another year of beautiful portraits.

Biedenharn Portraits–Part I

Ahhh… Spring!

I’ve sort of a tradition going on in the spring.  When the temperatures rise and the flowers begin to bloom, I try to take my monkeys to the beautiful gardens at the Biedenharn Coca-Cola museum.  If you’ve never been, you should go – tulips, azaleas, hydrangeas, pansies – they are stunning!  (Although, seeing the gorgeous grounds always make my own yard seem like some kind of abandoned wilderness.)

Of course, this was Tacy Mae’s first trip to the gardens.  Unfortunately, our photo session coincided with her nap time.  To put it mildly, she was a bit grumpy, but que sera sera, right?  We dealt with it.  Consequently, I have very few pictures of Tacy smiling.

No need for a lot of words today.  I’ll let my adorable monkeys do the talking…

Kicks on Route 66

As promised I have some pictures from Lucy’s dance recital to share today.

IMG_1186 - Copy (533x800)

No one was more excited about the recital this year than Miss Lucy Lee.  For weeks, she counted down the days until the recital.

The theme for the recital was “Get your kicks on Route 66.”  In keeping with the theme, the first half of the show pointed to Jesus as the “One Way” to eternal life.  All of the classes did ballet dances to Christian music.  Lucy’s class song was Jesus Loves Me.

Part 2 of the recital was a bit more fast paced mix of jazz and tap numbers - all with car themed music of course.  Lucy danced to “Riding on the Freeway.”

The way things worked out, there were only 6 girls in Lucy’s class this year.  I was pumped about that!  Less dancers on stage meant a better view of my pretty girl.

And pretty she was!  Lucy was super excited to wear makeup on stage.  Eyes, lips, cheeks – she got the works.  But of course she doesn’t need a drop of that stuff to be beautiful.

IMG_1197 - Copy (533x800)

All of the girls were to wear their hair up in buns, which was a difficult task considering Lucy’s short bob.  But given enough bobby pins and hairspray, anything is possible, right?

As exciting as the show was, Tacy Mae just couldn’t hold out ‘til the end.

Being little has its advantages.  Lucy got to be front and center during the final curtain call.

IMG_1251 - Copy (800x533)

Bye bye, Miss Lucy.  See ya’ next year!
