Everyone who hears these words of Mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. Matthew 7:24-25

To the Moon!

Judging from my blog posts over the last 3 months, one might get the impression that I only have one kid.  So I figured it was about time for me to write a little about the older monkeys.

Ty and Lucy had a great Christmas this year, and by “great” I mean they received more gifts than they know what to do with.  One thing that Ty got this year was a Mythbusters science experiment kit.  Included in this kit was a rocket powered by baking soda and vinegar.  So a few days after Christmas we headed outside for a lunar launch.

It was bitterly cold and windy this day.  You’ll notice Lucy and the Tool Man are wearing nice warm coats, but Ty is not.  I suppose that makes me a bad mother, right?

IMG_0458 (2) (533x800)

Lucy was right up in the middle of all the action.  Thankfully, this day Ty was willing to let her help.  These two usually aren’t so benevolent when it comes to sharing their toys.

IMG_0459 (2) (800x533)

Time to fuel her up.  The next time I’m baking a cake and can’t find my baking soda, will y’all remind me what happened to it?

IMG_0462 (2) (533x800)

IMG_0465 (2) (533x800)

After a good shake, it was time to set the rocket down and run like the wind.  Ty blew his mini duck call necklace to signal the launch.

To the moon!!!

IMG_0485 (2) (533x800)

IMG_0486 (2) (533x800)

OK.  So we didn’t make it to the moon, but judging by the look on Ty’s face I’d say he had fun with his new rocket.

IMG_0467 (2) (533x800)

And don’t tell him, but there may have been a little science mixed up in all this fun.  Aren’t I a sneaky, homeschool mom?

Tacy Mae – 3 Months

Guess who just had a birthday!  That’s right.  Tacy Mae turned 3 months old on the first day of the new year.  I kind of like that she was born on the first day of the month.  Sort of makes it easier for me to keep up with her age.

 IMG_0414 (2) (800x663)

As you can see, this little girl is turning out to be quite a porker.  As Lucy put it, Tacy is getting “fluffy!”  Even her kneecaps are squishy.  (By the way, I would like to know at exactly what age do dimply thighs and fat rolls change from cute to not-so-cute.)

IMG_0397 (2) (800x533)

Tacy’s hair is still a bit unruly, but it is beginning to lay down somewhat.

IMG_0411 (2) (800x533)

Thankfully, Tacy is still a wonderful sleeper.  Very seldom does she wake up in the middle of the night.  She usually goes to bed each night around 10:00 PM and is down until about 6:00 in the morning.  After a little breakfast and some playtime, Tacy takes a mid-morning nap.  (That’s when we try to sneak in most of our schoolwork.)  Then she’s up and at ‘em from about 10 AM ‘til late afternoon when she takes another nap.

IMG_0415 (2) (800x532)

Over the past month I’ve noticed a lot of changes in Tacy’s mental development.  She’s really becoming aware of all the craziness going on around her.  When she’s nursing I can see that she’s listening to the shenanigans of her brother and sister, sometimes even turning her head to see what’s happening behind her.

And just last week Tacy started paying more attention to TV.  Not that I intend to exploit that fact, but it is nice to be able to put her down long enough to fold a load of laundry or prepare a meal.

Of course, no photo shoot would be complete without a photo bomb by Lucy.

IMG_0429 (2) (800x533)

These pictures crack me up because, at only 3 months, Tacy is over half the size of petit Miss Lucy.  I mean, look at that picture!  I’m pretty sure Tacy will be passing her up one day soon.

IMG_0427 (2) (800x534)

Feeling left out, Ty wanted to have his picture made with Tacy while holding his new light saber.  That crazy boy!  He wore his Snuggie as a make-shift Luke Skywalker robe.  Ha ha.

Well, that’s all for now.  Hope y’all had a great Christmas.  As much as I love Christmas, I’m glad it’s all over.  I’m beat!

Fun Photos

A few weeks before Tacy was born I decided to have the Tool Man take a few pictures of me and my pregnant belly.  I was a little uncomfortable being the center of attention.  I’m not that into having my picture taken, especially when I’m packing a few extra pounds.  But I really did want to capture that special time of carrying my precious baby girl.

These pictures were made just in the nick of time.  Tacy was born two weeks after this shoot.

IMG_9382 (2) (534x800)

You didn’t think we’d take any pictures around here without including the monkeys, did you?

After getting a couple of serious pictures, the monkeys were dying to, well, for lack of a better word, act like monkeys.

No photo shoot would be complete without a ballerina pose.

I admit I’m not usually one to goof off, but it was fun letting loose with the monkeys.

Tacy Mae–Two Months

FYI I’ve only been working on this post for about 2 weeks, so I’m thrilled today to finally be able to publish it!

Tacy Mae is just over two months old now.  Those first few weeks of sleepless nights are all but a memory now.  (Praise the Lord!  She started sleeping through the night at 6 weeks.) And my tiny, 7 lb. 4 oz. bundle of joy has almost doubled in weight.  Already wearing size 6-9 months, Tacy’s got rolls in places I didn’t think was possible…on the sides of her calves, on the back of her neck.  And we won’t even try to count how many chins she has.

As adorable as all of those fat rolls are, it’s usually Tacy’s hair that takes center stage.  No, I don’t try to make her hair stand on end.  It does that all on it’s own.  In fact, I can’t even make her hair lie down.  I’ve just decided to embrace the volume, and I usually style it into a faux-hawk.

IMG_0066 - Copy (800x532)

As you can see Miss Lucy had to jump right in the middle of things, and she insisted that we spell out their names.  It is a pretty cute picture isn’t it?

IMG_0069 - Copy (800x533)

Besides all of the physical growth, I can really tell that Tacy is changing developmentally.  She is so much more alert now.  She is quickly becoming aware of all the activity that goes on around her – turning her head to follow objects or looking around when she hears noises.  One of the most wonderful changes in her is that she is smiling a lot more now.  Tacy loves for people to talk to her, and she rewards them with the prettiest, one-sided grin.  Melt your heart!  She’s also started cooing and babbling some.

Those pudgy little hands have been busy too.  They’ve found their way to her mouth, and her fingers have learned to grab and hold on to her blankie, clothes, or…my hair.  Ouch!

IMG_0062 - Copy (533x800)

One other thing about Miss Tacy Mae…she’s developed quite an attachment to her mama.  This is a new experience for me.  I never would have qualified Ty or Lucy as either a mama’s or daddy’s baby.  Tacy on the other hand…well, let’s just say I’m her main squeeze.  But that’s totally OK with me.  I consider it my greatest honor!

More of Miss Tacy

I’ve been going back through pictures from Tacy’s first few days.  My, how she has grown!  Tacy is only two months old now, but I can hardly remember her being as small as she looks in these pictures.

Here are a few pictures of Tacy’s homecoming.  What a happy day!  The Tool Man and I were talking the other day about what it was like to bring home our first two babies.  With Ty, we both remember thinking, “Now what?”  We had no idea what we were doing.  That first night home with that sweet baby boy was a nightmare.  No one had told me that I’d never sleep again.  Ha ha.

We were a little more prepared for Lucy.  At least we knew what to expect.

So with Tacy Mae it was old hat.  “We got this!”

IMG_9642 - Copy (800x533)

I still can’t get over all the hair Tacy has.  Nowadays it’s a bit unruly.  Think finger in a light socket.

IMG_9644 - Copy (800x566)

Time to get dressed to go home.  It always takes me to some time to get used to dressing babies.  I have to get over the fact that they won’t break.

Both Lucy and I wore this bonnet home from the hospital.

Tacy rode rather well in her car seat.  Newborns never look comfortable in those things.  (Remember the good ol’ days when kids used to ride on the “hump” in the front seat of the car?  How times have changed!)

The big monkeys were just dying to get their hands on the new addition.  Big brother got to go first.

IMG_9788 - Copy (800x533)

While she was waiting her turn, Lucy made do with a teddy bear, swaddling it up…

IMG_9789 - Copy (532x800)

…and giving it a bath.

IMG_9793 - Copy (800x533)

Now it’s Lucy’s turn with Tacy.

IMG_9796 - Copy (800x533)

Oh, how Lucy loves Tacy!

IMG_9803 (2) (534x800)

What’s not to love about this pretty little girl?  We were all so glad to finally have her home.
