Everyone who hears these words of Mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. Matthew 7:24-25

A Pressing Matter

What comes to mind when you think about ironing?

Laundry?…  Housework?… Wrinkles?…

What about an opportunity to teach a Biblical truth about life?

The other day while I was doing some ironing, Ty noticed the steam rising from the tip of the iron.  He commented on how the “cloud” was there for just a moment and then suddenly disappeared.

Remind you of a verse in the Bible?

James 4:14b NIV

You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.

While the image of that steam was still on his mind, I seized the opportunity to talk with Ty about the truths of this verse.  About how we should live for Jesus every day, because our lives slip away so quickly.  About how we should be thankful for each day, because each one is a blessing from God.  About the awesome fact that when we do leave this earth, those who know Jesus will spend forever and ever and ever and ever and ever in Heaven with Him.  About the sobering fact that those who don’t know Jesus will spend just that long suffering in Hell.  And about how important it is to share our faith with these people, because time is quickly running out for them.

Wow!  I’m thankful that the Lord is able to use anything, even an unpleasant household chore, to help me teach my children about Him.  I just have to keep my eyes and heart open to see where He’s working.

So today my goal is to be actively looking.  Looking for opportunities to teach Ty, not just about ABC’s and 123’s, but more importantly, about love, and life, and the Lord.

  1. It's great that you are looking for times to teach truths/lessons in your every day life. You will never regret taking the time to sow into your child's mind, heart, life! :)

  3. Great lesson Lindsey. I know that would have never come to me. I probably would have talked to him about the properties of water, lol.
